Ipsy August Bag

by on August 14, 2013

My August Ipsy bag arrived yesterday. As always, I was happy happy to see this little monthly surprise treat to myself in the mailbox. At $10 per month with free shipping, this is just the perfect little fun way to try out new brands and new colors.

This month’s theme was “Glamour Academy” which is the perfect back to school theme. The bag is purple and gold…a little Harry Potter-esque. It’s cute. I will probably use it to storage stuff in.

First thing I pulled out of the envelope was this postcard. It lists all the companies who participated in this month’s bag and the discounts they offer to you as a subscriber for the month. One of the cool things about this is, even if you didn’t receive one of the items, you can still use the discount code. (You only get 5 out of the 8 products.) I have heard really good things about the Michael Todd product line so I am tempted to use this code to try some more products. NYX also has some awesome products and a 40% discount is a sweet treat.

Inside my bag, I received these 5 items.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69 – deluxe size, 0.04 oz – Value $9.78

‘Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System™ delivers insane color payoff with creamy shine, Maxi-Lip™ plumps and nourishing oils leave lips cushiony soft. Get the color you crave. Addictive to apply (and even more addictive to wear), this creamy formula glides on without dragging or skipping, hugs every curve and gives you a BIG laydown of color. There’s a wide range of colors – from gorgeous nudes to bold brights, there’s something for everyone.”  I am not a huge lipstick gal but I love the packaging and the colors in this line look awesome. This is the #1 hot item in this month’s bag.

Pixie Beauty Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Black – deluxe size, 0.105 oz – Value $7.15

“This unique mascara truly boosts your lashes, giving them a “push-up” effect that lasts all day. The dense, rich formula coats lashes with maximum pigment, for long-lasting full color and the cone-shaped brush coats each lash evenly. Long lasting, smudge-free and waterproof.” This mascara has beneficial ingredients: Vitamin E nourishes skin Carnauba wax is naturally emollient, microcrystalline wax nourishes & ensures easy application, and simethicone which provides a smooth glide. Pixie is a mid-price brand. I have heard mixed reviews about their products. I know some are really good and some are so-so but I was happy to get this. I am always on the hunt for the perfect mascara and love when I can “try before I buy.” You can find this brand at Target.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – deluxe size, 0.25 oz – Value $9.00

“Always be photo ready with the Photo Finish Foundation Primer! This primer creates the perfect canvas for makeup application and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores. Velvety-smooth, even finish. Oil-free.” I was really happy to receive this. I have been wanting to try Smashbox’s primers for some time as I have heard really good things about them. It was the winner of Best of Sephora Award for Best Primer, one of Marie Claire’s “25 Products That Will Change Your Life”, & an InStyle Best Beauty Buy.

Michael Todd’s Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask – deluxe size, 1.0 oz – Value $10.00

“The Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask is a nutrient rich mask that is blended with Pumpkin and Glycolic Acid. This rejuvinating facial treatment removes dead skin, impurities and toxins, moisturizes and firms, improves elasticity and pliability of the skin, unclogs pores allowing skin to breathe and facilitates movement of skin oils. Adds brightness and radiance to the skin and significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” I am so happy to have gotten this in my bag. I have been dying to try this line and I love facial masks…win win! One of the nicest parts about this is the their product is all organic.

Mica Beauty Eyeshadow in Bronze – full size, 0.102 oz – Value $14.95

“MicaBeauty Mineral Eyeshadows are extremely gentle, free of preservatives, chemicals, dyes, talc, oils, and other fillers. With this unique formula, the eyeshadows will look ultra smooth and stay put for hours without creasing or pulling the delicate eye area. Can be mixed with clear lip-gloss, clear mascara, and clear nail polish to add pigment to lips, eyelashes and nails!” I have never heard of this brand before and I am new to loose mineral shadows but I am eager to try it out. The shadow is a mid-toned shimmery brown…the perfect color and hot summer days.

Blockbuster or Flop? Blockbuster! I received over $50.00 worth of high quality beauty products for only $10.00. I love getting pretty packages in the mail. I love a bargain. And I love trying new things. Sounds like a win to me.

I started getting the Birch Box this July. I have been a little bit disappointed in both of the boxes I have gotten so far. Now this looks better. I will have to check this out. Would make good gifts for my daughters too. Thanks for the review.

Jana, from what I have read/seen BB does more foils than samples. The thing I love about Ipsy is we have only gotten deluxe and full size items. It’s been fun to try out new stuff and for $10.00 it’s totally worth it to me. You are a sweet mama…it would make a great gift for your daughters.
